The course deals with definition, scope of plant physiology, different disciplines interconnected with plant physiology, practical aspects of plant physiology, and plant cell; plant -water relations i.e. the importance and properties of water;, water movement through soil-plant-atmosphere continuum, and transpiration; photosynthesis i.e., light and dark reaction, role of photosystem I and II, path of carbon in photosynthesis, role of C3 and C4 in crop productivity, photorespiration, factors affecting photosynthesis; the processes of respiration i.e. glycolysis, fermentation, krebs cycle, electron transport chain, the pentose phosphate pathway, measurement of respiration and factors affecting respiration; plant growth and development; plant hormones and growth regulators; and stress physiology.
